How to Hire Remote Workers in Argentina
Argentina is one to two hours ahead of United States Eastern time, which makes a Buenos Aires afternoon your morning, and it has the strongest English of any large market in the region.
It is also the one country on this list where the rules moved in favor of contractor engagements, and recently. If you last looked at hiring in Argentina before 2026, the answer you got is out of date.
Working hours
Argentina sits one to two hours ahead of United States Eastern time depending on the season. A 10am start in Buenos Aires is 8am or 9am on the East Coast, so the overlap covers your entire working day.
What Argentine law counts as employment
Article 23 of the Employment Contract Law used to presume an employment contract from the simple fact that services were provided. That is what made contractor engagements there risky.
Ley 27.802, the Modernization of Labor law published in the Official Gazette on March 6, 2026, rewrote it. The presumption now applies to services provided in a situation of dependence, and it does not apply where the arrangement is for professional services or a trade and the matching receipts or invoices are issued.
In plain terms, invoices and a genuine professional engagement now carry real weight in Argentina. This continued a direction set by Ley 27.742 in 2024. It is not a free pass: someone you direct all day is still an employee there.
What an employer carries in Argentina
Sueldo anual complementario
The 13th salary is one twelfth of total remuneration, paid in two instalments on June 30 and December 18, each equal to half of the highest monthly salary in that half year.
Vacation
Employees receive 14 consecutive days up to five years of service, 21 days to ten years, 28 days to twenty, and 35 days beyond that.
When it applies
Both of the above are employee entitlements. They are the reason classification is worth getting right rather than guessing at.
These apply to employees. Whether they apply to your hire is exactly the classification question above, which is covered in full in contractor vs employee in Latin America. This is general information, not legal advice.
The 2026 change, and what it does not do
Ley 27.802 is a genuine narrowing of the employment presumption, and it is why Argentina is now a more comfortable place to engage a professional on a contract than it was two years ago.
What it does not do is make the facts irrelevant. Services still have to be provided outside a situation of dependence, and the invoices have to be real. A full-time seat on your org chart with a fixed monthly payment is still employment, whatever documents exist.
Hiring there in practice
English is the standout
Argentina consistently produces the strongest English speakers we screen in the region, which matters most for client-facing and senior technical roles.
Invoicing is routine
Professionals working with foreign clients are used to invoicing for their services, so the mechanics the new law rewards are already normal practice there.
Pay is set by role, not by country
Argentina does not carry a country premium or discount with us. The role decides the range.
How we engage someone in Argentina
You sign one Master Services Agreement with Remote Hero. We engage and pay the professional, and they work directly with your team, month to month. They stay a contractor through us rather than becoming an employee of an employer of record, and that structure is the same in every country we place from. If you would rather employ someone yourself from the start we place on that basis too, and if a contractor placement is working we can sell you the contract out so they join your payroll.
Plan for a two-week ramp once they start, and own that part: training, context, clear expectations and access to your systems. We stay involved afterwards, so if something goes wrong on either side we mediate rather than leaving you to it.

- Did Argentina change its contractor rules?
- Yes. Ley 27.802, published in the Official Gazette on March 6, 2026, rewrote article 23 of the Employment Contract Law so the employment presumption applies to services provided in a situation of dependence, and not to genuine professional or trade services billed with invoices.
- Does that mean I can treat anyone in Argentina as a contractor?
- No. The engagement still has to be genuinely independent. If you set the hours, supply the tools and direct the work every day, that is employment in Argentina as it is everywhere else in the region.
- What is the 13th salary in Argentina?
- It is the sueldo anual complementario: one twelfth of total remuneration, paid to employees in two instalments on June 30 and December 18. It applies to employees rather than to contractors.
- How well does Argentina overlap with US hours?
- Completely. It runs one to two hours ahead of Eastern time, so the person is at their desk before your day starts and through most of your afternoon.
